About

Hi I'm Drea!

I'm a studio potter in Durango, Colorado. I've been working with clay for around 20 years, but my journey started long before that. My very first clay experience was at 9 years old when I threw my first little pot on my fisher price pottery wheel i got as a Christmas gift. Even through the pot was small and lopsided, the experience of the cold, wet clay spinning between my hands sparked a sense of excitement and intrigue which has continued throught my life. I received a BFA in Ceramics from Bowling Green State University in 2005 and from there, went on to working and teaching in community clay studios throughout Florida, Ohio and Colorado. Some of these include Queen City Clay and Amphora Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Northern Colorado Potters Guild in Fort Collins, CO.

Growing up in Ohio, I found myself spending much of my time outside as a kid, and felt my absolute true self when I was in the woods and immersed in nature. I always felt a pull towards the mountains and in 2010, packed up my car and followed my heart out to Colorado, where I currently reside. Much of my work is inspired by the Southwest mountain landscape, and I wish to convey my love of this area to others through my work.

Clay has always been my passion mainly because I love its raw simplicity and versatility.Through carving techniques, textured surfaces, revealing the bare clay body, my work highlights movement, depth and shadows to emulate a rock or crystal found in nature. Clay being from the earth, is humble and grounding in nature, envoking a a sense of peace through its use. Each piece I make is designed to be held, touched and used as a functional piece of art that inspires the user to become creative and one with nature. Cheers from my mug to yours!
